It's always good to have a hobby, something for the rainy days. Being a computer buff, I started using an Atari ST to link up an 8 track Tascam to a timecode machine, and slave it to a midi sequencer . Basically a small pre-production studio.
|
In those days the IBM PC was an unwieldy beast that ran on DOS. For the uninitiated that means no desktop, no mouse,no nothing but a flashing cursor and a blank screen. The Atari, marketed as a games machine was lightyears ahead. It had a desktop, with WIMP system (Windows, Icons, Mouse, Pointer),and could handle MIDI. Okay, a hard drive of a few Megabytes would have cost a fortune, but it worked great as a sequencer, and could also do wordprocessing, graphic editing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets and more. An add-on ROM allowed it to become a sampler which could be hooked up to a Midi keyboard.

After the PC came of age due to Mr. Gates and Windows, I had to convert to that common faith to avail of new processors, memory, software. As Henry of France said when he had to change religions to become king: "Paris is worth a mass!"
I now use a simple set-up with an outboard 8 channel ADC, which gives loads of adaptability for my needs.Sure isn't music supposed to be fun?
Recording an eclectic mix of music, from Irish Country, through hardcore metal, and out past the Moon, back to Ballads, and my own wee tunes, download some samples below, and see what's on offer in the Bazaar. Remember, this is an amateur studio, so you get what you get, sometimes with raw edges!

Don Harrington |

Local man Don wrote this catchy number and we recorded a demo version of it featuring the mellow voice of Gerry McTaggart. Irish Country at it's best! Oh Mary! You can almost hear the pints of the Black Stuff being poured in the background. |
My own stuff |
Well, it all started with a guitar in the 60's, and then I saw Jimi Hendrix live at Coventry. I realised that I would never be able to do anything like what he and many others can do with the guitar, but I still had ideas of my own, and occasionally I put some of them down on tape. Here are two samplers: The Rest of the Night and Got to Be. They are getting on for 3 Mb each so will take time to download over a dial up connection. |
